Why life insurance matters

Life insurance exists to protect the people who depend on your income. If the earning member is no longer there, a life policy provides a defined sum to the family at the point when it is hardest to arrange money.

Beyond protection, several LIC plan types also build a long-term savings habit — money set aside consistently over decades, with a benefit payable at maturity. Which of these two purposes matters most to you should decide the plan type, not the other way round.

A useful way to start: work out how many years of household expenses your family would need, add outstanding loans, subtract existing cover and savings, and use that as the starting point for the sum assured discussion.

Types of LIC plans

Each category is designed for a different purpose.

Protection (term) plans

Pure life cover for the chosen term. Designed to replace family income if something happens to the earning member. No maturity benefit.

Endowment & savings plans

Life cover combined with a savings element, with a maturity benefit as defined in the policy conditions.

Money back plans

Periodic survival benefits during the policy term along with a maturity benefit, for people who want liquidity at intervals.

Child plans

Structured around a child's education-stage needs, with the payout schedule defined in the official brochure.

Pension & annuity plans

Immediate or deferred annuity income after retirement, with the annuity rate declared by LIC at purchase.

Unit linked plans

Market-linked plans where investment risk is borne by the policyholder. Suitable only if you understand and accept that risk.

Frequently asked questions

Is Insure Xpert the same as LIC?
No. LIC of India is the insurer that issues the policy. Insure Xpert is an independent advisory service that helps you understand the plans, compare the options and complete the process. All policy terms come from LIC's official documentation.
How do I know which LIC plan type suits me?
Start from the purpose: pure protection for family income replacement, endowment or savings plans for disciplined long-term saving, child plans for education-stage payouts, money back plans for periodic liquidity, and annuity plans for retirement income. The advisor will map your goal, budget and existing cover to the right category before discussing any specific plan.
Can I see the exact premium on this website?
Premium figures are not displayed here unless a verified LIC calculation is available, because rates depend on official rate tables, underwriting and the tariff in force. Send your requirement through the enquiry form and you will receive an official quotation.
Where can I verify plan details independently?
Every plan page links to LIC's official plan pages. Always read the official brochure and policy document before purchase.

Insure Xpert is not LIC of India. LIC policies are issued by Life Insurance Corporation of India, and all benefits, eligibility and premium rates are governed by LIC's official brochure and policy document. Official reference: licindia.in insurance plans.
