Planning for the years after work
Retirement planning is about building towards a reliable income once your regular earnings stop — starting early enough that the numbers work comfortably, and choosing the right mix of pension and annuity products alongside your other savings.
LIC Pension & Annuity Plans
LIC offers a range of pension and annuity plans designed to provide a regular income after retirement. The right one depends on your age, timeline, existing savings and how you'd like income paid out — there isn't a single plan that suits everyone.
Things worth understanding before you choose
Guaranteed income vs market-linked growth
LIC pension and annuity plans generally offer a guaranteed, predictable income. Market-linked investments can grow further but carry more uncertainty. Most people end up using a mix of both, in a proportion that suits their comfort with risk.
Immediate vs deferred annuity
An immediate annuity starts paying out soon after you invest a lump sum — useful if you're at or near retirement already. A deferred annuity builds up over a chosen period before payouts begin, suited to planning well ahead of retirement.
How you'd like income paid out
Plans differ in how income is structured — for life, for a fixed period, with or without return of the purchase price to your family, or with annual increases. The right structure depends on your other savings and what your family will need.
Vesting age
Pension plans have a vesting age — the point at which regular payouts are meant to begin. Choosing this sensibly, relative to your expected retirement age, is part of getting the plan right from the start.
Fitting it with your other savings
Retirement income rarely comes from one place. Pension planning is discussed alongside your broader savings and investments — including any mutual fund investing you're already doing — rather than treated in isolation. If you're an NRI planning a return to India, this often overlaps with the guidance on our NRI Services page too.
Common questions
Retirement outcomes depend on your specific plan choice, contribution timeline and current LIC terms. Figures, guarantees and payout structures are defined solely in LIC's official plan documentation — an advisor will work through the specifics with you.
